DraftKings Makes Deal to Be Ready for Sports Gambling in Kansas
DraftKings has planted its boots in Kansas.
DraftKings announced on Tuesday a collaboration with BHCMC, LLC, a subsidiary of Butler National Corporation and manager of Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City, to enter into a new market access deal. That lays the foundation for when sports betting legislation and regulations are approved and operational within the state.
Boot Hill is one of four state-owned casinos in Kansas. The others are Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas State Casino in Mulvane and Kansas Crossing in Pittsburg. Check out our information on real money online casinos.
Kansas Mulling Sports Betting Options
State legislators in Kansas have considered bringing legal sports betting to the state but are far from consensus. A sports gambling bill in the Senate sought to develop the market largely through the casinos. The House has leaned toward retailers of the Kansas Lottery.
The lottery facility games at Boot Hill are owned and operated by the Kansas Lottery. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission provides regulatory oversight for the casino.
“As we continue our quest to expand our mobile sportsbook footprint to every state in the U.S., we are eager to begin working with Boot Hill Casino & Resort,” Jeremy Elbaum, Senior Vice President Business Development for DraftKings, said in a news release. “We look forward to the opportunities that lay ahead and remain optimistic that Kansas lawmakers will enact common sense legislation that will benefit the state and its constituents.”
DraftKings at 18 States and Growing
Currently, DraftKings has live operations in 18 states: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.
“As manager for Boot Hill Casino & Resort for the Kansas Lottery, we are pleased to work with DraftKings to bring first in class mobile sportsbook to Kansas,” Boot Hill CEO Clark Stewart said. "DraftKings is a leader in this fast-growing industry and will bring a trusted, experienced mobile sports betting application to sports fans in Kansas, when the law allows.”
