Connecticut Sports Betting Records Broken Again in November

For the second month in a row, figures for sports betting records in Connecticut online gambling were rewritten.

The start of the holiday season, including Thanksgiving NFL games and critical college football games, no doubt provided a boost to help the Constitution State break marks set in the previous month.

November’s total sports betting handle was $165,026,282. That was a 0.5% increase from $164.17 million in October, a bump of nearly $1 million in money wagered. That mark from the October Connecticut casino revenue report beat the standard of $158 million from January, the record only lasted a month atop the charts.

Mobile Sports Betting Dominates

The mobile sports betting handle, as always, accounted for the vast majority of wagering, at $154,453,896. That was 0.7% higher than $153.3 million the previous month, again surpassing the state record, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection posted in its monthly report.

The state took in $14,126,454 in total taxable revenue for sports betting, with mobile revenue accounting for $13.2 million of that total. That was yet another high-water mark broken, vaulting past the September Connecticut betting revenue total of $12.9 million.

November’s state revenue share was $1,942,387.

The only number to decline was retail sports betting handle at brick-and-mortar facilities, which was down 2.6%, from $10.86 million to $10.57 million.

Constitution State Online Gaming Picture

The online gaming figures dipped very slightly in November compared to the previous month. As is the case in other states with legal, regulated iGaming such as online roulette, blackjack and other card games, the revenue for online gambling tends to be steady and is less affected by seasonality than sports betting is.

In October, the state set a record with nearly $976 million in handle from its iGaming. But that figure fell 7.4% in November, with a total of $903,746,059 wagered.

The total taxable gaming revenue and state share had just a slight dip of 0.3% in a month-over-month comparison for the best online casino options. The revenue fell from $21,884,070 in October to $21,817,715 last month.

The state share declined from $3,939,838 to $3,927,189, a difference of less than $13,000.

Still, after a bit more than a year since launch, Connecticut players are enjoying mobile gaming apps and the overall numbers are encouraging.
