BetMGM Sports Betting Option Live at Washington State Tribal Casino
The BetMGM Sportsbook at Emerald Queen Casino – a pair of gaming facilities in Tacoma, Washington – is the newest retail sports betting option in the state.
The casino, run by the Puyallup Tribe in Washington, becomes the state’s latest facility to offer sports betting.
In October, BetMGM struck a deal with the Emerald Queen to provide sports betting, and it only took several weeks for the operation to come to fruition.
"We're thrilled to expand BetMGM's presence in Washington, a significant market filled with some of the country's most passionate sports fans," BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a media release. “Together with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and our partners at Emerald Queen Casino, we're proud to welcome guests to the state's premier sportsbook."
Seattle Sports Stars Appear for Opening
Former Seattle sports stars Edgar Martinez, Marshawn Lynch, Lawyer Milloy and Sydney Rice were there to place the sportsbook's first bets, the release said.
The Puyallup Tribe operates both the Emerald Queen Casino in Fife and the EQC in Tacoma. Both locations will have betting kiosks dedicated to sports, and both plan to launch mobile sports betting (but only within the casinos) in 2022.
If Washington ever adopts an online casino market, the BetMGM Casino would likely be a natural partner with the Puyallup Tribe’s operation.
But there are no online casino real money options in Washington, nor is there a true mobile sports betting market in the state.
Washington Sports Betting at Tribal Casinos Only
Still, the Emerald Queen is part of a growing trend of sportsbooks at casinos in the Emerald State – again, only at brick-and-mortar locations.
Last week, the Snoqualmie Casino opened its mobile sportsbook powered by International Gaming Technology. But online wagering is only available inside the casino, unlike a true mobile market in which customers can place wagers from home or anywhere else within state lines.
That location took its first retail sports bets on Sept. 9, the day the NFL season began.
Also, a retail FanDuel Sportsbook is operating at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, a short ferry ride from Seattle.
